Today's music apps ask, "What do you want to hear?" But our users are struggling with a more fundamental question: "What do I need right now?"
Through intensive research, shadowing sessions, and direct feedback, we gathered insights. The market gap is clear. Users aren't just looking for a larger library; they're looking for a smarter, more contextual companion.

The Creative Proposition: The current model is reactive, forcing users to manually bridge the gap between their need and their audio. The problem is that audio services are fragmented, while our lives are not. Gaana has the opportunity to move from being a music repository to becoming an intelligent audio companion that serves the moment, not just a playlist.
How Might We (HMW) Questions:
The Vision: Four Pillars of Intelligence
I conceptualized the Gaana AI ecosystem built on four interconnected pillars:
3.1 User Flow & Architecture
I mapped a user's journey through this new ecosystem, ensuring the features were interconnected and felt native to Gaana.

Pillar 1: The Proactive Homepage
A. The Gaana AI Widget: A smart widget at the top of the homepage that changes contextually. It could suggest: "Start your Focus Radio," "Continue with Chill Evening Mix," or "Catch up on news and music with your Morning Briefing."
B. The Sticky CTA: A small, persistent "Ask Gaana AI" button in the bottom navigation, ensuring the assistant is always one tap away.

Pillar 2: Conversational Discovery
Voice & Chat UI: A simple interface accessible via the Sticky CTA or search bar. Users can type or speak queries like:

* Pillar 3: The Contextual Gaana AI Radio
One-Tap Play: A single button to start an ever-evolving, personalized radio station.
Blended Audio Intelligence: This station doesn't just play music. It intelligently weaves in:

Search Tab Prompts: The Gaana search page features personalized, tappable prompts like "Artists similar to A.R. Rahman but more classical," or "Introduce me to 90s Indi-Pop."
AI-Powered Playlist Creation: In the Library, prompts like "Make a playlist from my top Diwali songs" or "Organize my liked songs into 'Workout', 'Chill', and 'Party' playlists."
Dedicated AI Library: A new section in the Library tab called "My AI Stations" houses all user-created and suggested Gaana AI Radios, giving them a permanent home.

4.1 High-Fidelity Mockups & Prototype: I built a high-fidelity, interactive prototype in Figma to demonstrate how this ecosystem feels in practice within the Gaana app.
A. The Intelligent Homepage: The Gaana AI Widget uses Gaana's branding with distinct imagery and copy for different contexts. The Sticky CTA is designed with a subtle glow pulse in a brand-aligned accent color to attract attention without being annoying.

B. The Flowing Gaana AI Radio Experience: The "Now Playing" screen is redesigned to show the blended content. A visual indicator shows when a news update or trivia fact is playing, with the option to skip just that segment.

C. The Conversational Interface: The chat UI uses bubbles, with Gaana AI's responses providing not just answers but tappable actions (e.g., "Playing 'Lut Gaye'... Want to know the story behind this track?").
4.2 Design System for Intelligence: I created a small sub-system within the Gaana design system for AI features:
What I Learned:
Ecosystem over Feature: The biggest challenge and success was designing an interconnected system. The value isn't in one single feature but in how the widget, radio, and chat work together to create a seamless experience.
Designing for Audio UI: I had to think beyond screens to the spoken word and sound design. The timing and tone of the AI's voice and the interstitial jingles are critical to the experience.
Balancing Control and Automation: Users want smart automation but not a black box. Providing clear indicators of why content was chosen ("Based on your recent listens to Pritam") and allowing segment-skipping was key to building trust.
Next Steps & Future Vision:
Conclusion: Gaana AI is a vision for the next generation of the Gaana platform. It's not about having more songs; it's about having a more intelligent, empathetic, and context-aware relationship with audio. By designing a cohesive ecosystem that is proactive, conversational, and contextual, we can transform the user experience from one of search and selection to one of flow and discovery, solidifying Gaana's position as a leader in intelligent audio entertainment.
